The Speed Project

"More than just taking photos, Frank told our story."

- Saul M., Team Captain

340 miles. Santa Monica to Las Vegas. No official course. No prize money. Just an unsanctioned relay race through desert heat, mountain cold, and whatever else the road throws at you. The Speed Project is one of the most demanding endurance events in the world. And nobody made you do it.

Behind the Shoot

THE CHALLENGE
An unsanctioned, unmarked 340-mile relay race — no press pool, no predictable moments, no fixed course, and no do-overs once the team starts running.

THE PLAN —  Treat it like an expedition, not an event shoot: stay mobile with the team, anticipate where the light and terrain would actually be worth shooting along a route with no set course, and be ready to get usable frames through multiple days on almost no sleep. On the ground, stay close without getting in the way — the team was racing, not posing.

THE RESULT — What came back wasn't posed portraits but the real arc of the race — effort, exhaustion, a team pushing each other through miles nobody was making them run. Images built to capture what the team put themselves through, and to help them pursue future sponsorships.
