Freaks of Nature Campaign
A self-directed spec campaign for Freaks of Nature performance sunscreen, shot across Maui beaches, a studio tabletop, and San Francisco. The goal: a complete, campaign-ready image set — the kind a brand's own marketing team could put to use.
Behind the Shoot
THE CHALLENGE — A performance sunscreen with no obvious category to shoot into — not a sports product, not a fitness product, but something that needed to read as essential gear for an active outdoor life. No client, no brief, and three very different shoot environments to pull into one consistent campaign: Maui beaches, a studio tabletop, and a model shoot in San Francisco.
THE PLAN — Splitting the campaign into distinct phases rather than forcing one shoot to do everything: product-on-location work in Maui for the real-world outdoor context, controlled tabletop studio shots for clean product detail, and a model shoot at China Basin in San Francisco to bring the brand's lifestyle side into a Bay Area setting. Casting for models who could carry the "active lifestyle" feel rather than a sports or fitness one.
THE RESULT — A full set of still images built for marketing, social media, and promotional use — no video this round. This shoot was a proof of concept.
